Basement waterproofing in Crescent Hill, Louisville, KY

Early 1900s homes along Frankfort Avenue on the hill above Beargrass Creek, with brick and stone basements built long before drainage. Crescent Hill basements are worth saving, and they can be made dry.

Homes in Crescent Hill

Hillside lots, old foundations and water that runs downhill through the neighborhood

Crescent Hill sits on the rise between Frankfort Avenue and Brownsboro Road, above the Middle Fork of Beargrass Creek, with the reservoir at the top. Its bungalows, four-squares and Tudors from the 1900s to the 1930s have brick and stone basements, and the streets that slope toward the creek and toward Clifton carry a lot of water past a lot of foundations.

The ground under Louisville is dense clay on top of limestone. Clay drains slowly, so it stays saturated against a foundation long after the rain stops, and water moves through the limestone below along paths nobody can see from the yard. The common problems are seepage through old walls, water at the floor joint on the uphill side of sloped lots, and basements that have been finished over damp walls and are growing mold behind the drywall. Interior drainage with a wall membrane and a sealed sump is the fix for the basements; intercept drains and buried downspouts handle the hill.

Zach’s crew of “good old country boys,” as he described them, waterproofed our basement December 1st and 3rd because we had a big-for-Kentucky snow, and the guys couldn’t make it to Shelbyville on the 2nd. From the website, we could tell they mainly…

Questions

What Crescent Hill homeowners ask

Still have a question? Call the office, Monday to Saturday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

My Crescent Hill basement is damp but never floods. Is it worth fixing?

Yes. A damp basement is humidity, mold and rust upstairs and down, and it is why the space is not being used. A drainage system and a dehumidified, membraned wall make it dry and usable.

Can you work around old plumbing and coal-chute openings?

Yes. Old basements are full of surprises and we plan around them.

Do you cover Clifton and the Frankfort Avenue corridor?

Yes, Crescent Hill, Clifton, Clifton Heights and over to St. Matthews.
