Basement waterproofing
Basement waterproofing in Louisville, KY
Interior drainage, sealed walls and a sump system that keeps the basement dry through Louisville's spring storms. Fixed at the cause, photographed at every stage, and backed by a lifetime transferable warranty.

Signs you need it
How a wet basement shows itself
Water on the floor after rain
Usually entering at the cove joint where floor meets wall, pushed by the water table rising in Louisville's clay.
White powder or stains on the block
Efflorescence is minerals left behind by water moving through the wall. It means the wall is wet inside.
Damp smell, rusting appliances, peeling paint
Long-term humidity in a basement corrodes metal, lifts paint and feeds mold behind finished walls.
Cracks that weep
Poured walls crack as they cure and settle. Under pressure, the crack becomes a pipe.

What we do
A drainage system that catches the water where it enters, and moves it out
Most Louisville basements leak at the joint between the floor slab and the wall, or through the wall itself. Our interior system opens a channel around the perimeter of the floor, sets perforated drain tile in washed gravel at the footing, and covers the walls with a drainage membrane or vapor barrier so any water that gets through the block runs down behind it into the drain instead of across your floor. The drain feeds a sealed sump basin with a quality pump, and the floor is poured back level.
Where the wall itself is failing, or where a finished basement makes interior work impractical, we excavate outside and waterproof the wall directly. We recommend based on the house, and we tell you why.
- Perimeter drain tile at the footing, feeding a sealed sump
- Wall membrane or vapor barrier so the wall can be wet and the room stays dry
- Sump pump with sealed lid; battery backup available
- Floor restored, site cleaned, lifetime transferable warranty on our work

How the job goes
Two to three days for a typical basement

Inspect
We find the entry points, check the exterior grading and downspouts, and photograph the whole basement.

Open the floor
The perimeter channel is cut and the concrete removed. Dust is controlled and the area is sheeted off.

Drain, membrane, sump
Drain tile and gravel go in, the wall membrane goes up, the sump basin is set and the pump connected.

Close and finish
New concrete over the channel, discharge line run outside, everything tested under load.

Questions
Basement waterproofing: what people ask
Still have a question? Call the office, Monday to Saturday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
How much does basement waterproofing cost in Louisville?
An interior drainage system is priced by the length of the perimeter and what the basement is used for; exterior waterproofing costs more because it involves excavation. Every job is priced in writing after a free inspection, and the cost guide has typical Louisville ranges and a calculator for planning.
Interior or exterior: which is better?
Interior systems suit many Louisville basements, cost less and do not disturb the yard, landscaping or driveways. Exterior waterproofing is right when the wall itself is deteriorating or when the layout makes interior work impossible. We recommend the one the house needs.
Will I lose my finished basement?
The perimeter of the floor and the bottom of the walls are opened. If the basement is finished, we work with you on the least disruptive route and put back what we remove wherever possible.
Can I just seal the walls with paint?
Waterproof paint holds back water until the pressure behind it is greater than the bond, then it peels. It treats the symptom. Drainage relieves the pressure, which treats the cause.
Do you fix the outside grading and downspouts too?
Yes. Roof water dumped next to the foundation is a common cause of a wet basement, and buried downspout extensions are often part of the job.
