Crawl space waterproofing
Crawl space waterproofing in Louisville, KY
Standing water under the house is the problem that makes every other problem worse. We install drainage and a sump under the crawl space so water leaves the way it should, then seal the space.

Signs you need it
Water under the house
Puddles or mud after rain
Louisville sits on clay over limestone. Water that cannot soak in collects in the lowest place, which is your crawl space.
Water at the foundation wall
Roof water and surface water pushed against the footing finds its way inside.
Humidity that a dehumidifier cannot keep up with
If there is a pond under the liner, no dehumidifier wins.
Mold, rot and rust on ductwork
Long-term standing water rots wood, feeds mold and corrodes metal.

What we do
Drain it first. Then seal it.
A crawl space drainage system works like a basement system without the concrete. We trench the perimeter, lay perforated drain tile in washed gravel, and route it to a sealed sump basin at the low point. A quality pump pushes the water outside and well away from the foundation. If the space floods from a specific wall, we add a channel there. Then the space is lined or encapsulated on top of dry ground.
Outside, we look at the grading, the downspouts and the yard drainage, because a lot of crawl space water started as roof water dropped next to the house.
- Perimeter drain tile and washed gravel, trenched by hand
- Sealed sump basin, quality pump, discharge run away from the house
- Downspout and yard drainage corrected at the same time
- Vapor barrier or full encapsulation over the dry space

Trench and drain
The perimeter is trenched, drain tile and gravel go in, everything slopes to the sump.

Sump and discharge
Sealed basin, pump, check valve and a discharge line run well away from the foundation.

Seal the space
With the ground dry, the liner or encapsulation goes down and the dehumidifier goes in.

Why Watertight
The step that gets skipped
Sealing a liner over standing water creates a pond with a lid, and mold loves it. When there is water, we drain it first, and the drainage goes in as part of the same job, by the same crew.
- Hand-trenched drainage by our own crew
- Sump pumps with battery backup available
- Downspouts and grading corrected outside
4 weeks agoThis company Water Tight did a great job, they removed all of my insulation that was moisture soaked. Installed a new crawl space dehumidifier and treated for any existing mold problems. They added some steel shims to floor supports. They were very…

3 months agoZach’s crew of “good old country boys,” as he described them, waterproofed our basement December 1st and 3rd because we had a big-for-Kentucky snow, and the guys couldn’t make it to Shelbyville on the 2nd. From the website, we could tell they mainly…
Questions
Crawl space waterproofing: what people ask
Still have a question? Call the office, Monday to Saturday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
How is crawl space waterproofing different from encapsulation?
Waterproofing moves liquid water out: drainage and a sump. Encapsulation controls moisture and air: liner and dehumidifier. A wet crawl space needs both, in that order.
Where does the water go?
Into a sealed sump basin and out through a discharge line to a point well away from the foundation, often into a buried drain line with a pop-up emitter in the yard.
Can I just add a dehumidifier?
Not if there is standing water. A dehumidifier handles humidity, not puddles. Drain first.
What does it cost?
Crawl space drainage is priced by the perimeter and the access, and the written price covers the whole job including the liner. Every job is priced in writing after a free inspection, and the cost guide has typical Louisville ranges and a calculator for planning.
