Homes in Jeffersontown

Crawl spaces, clay lots and a lot of roof water with nowhere to go

Jeffersontown is mostly post-war and later subdivisions off Taylorsville Road, Watterson Trail and Hurstbourne Parkway, with ranches and two-stories on crawl spaces and a good number of walkout basements on the rolling lots toward the east. Chenoweth Run and its tributaries drain the area, and the flat, clay-heavy lots between them hold water long after the rain stops.

The J-town problems that come up are damp, vented crawl spaces with soaked insulation and mold on the joists, and water in walkout basements on the uphill side. The ground under Louisville is dense clay on top of limestone. Clay drains slowly, so it stays saturated against a foundation long after the rain stops, and water moves through the limestone below along paths nobody can see from the yard. Encapsulation with a dehumidifier fixes the crawl spaces; intercept drains and interior drainage fix the basements. Buried downspout extensions are often part of the fix.

Zach, Deron and the crew are for real. When you invite a team of tradesmen into your home to fix an issue, there are qualities that are non-negotiable. Honest, trustworthy, prompt, communication, and a ‘blue-collar’ work ethic. Watertight Waterproofing…

Questions

What Jeffersontown homeowners ask

Still have a question? Call the office, Monday to Saturday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Why is my Jeffersontown crawl space so humid?

Vented crawl spaces on clay in a humid climate: warm summer air comes in through the vents, condenses on the cool wood and ductwork, and the clay keeps the ground wet. Sealing and dehumidifying the space is the fix.

My walkout basement leaks on the uphill side. What is the fix?

Usually an exterior intercept drain on that side plus buried downspouts, sometimes with interior drainage along the affected wall. We diagnose it at the free estimate.

Do you handle the insulation too?

Yes. Replacing ruined insulation is part of reconditioning and encapsulation, not a separate contractor.
