Karst ground, a creek, and new subdivisions on vented crawl spaces

Sellersburg gave its name to a limestone formation, and the quarries around town tell you what the houses are built on. The ground here is karst: limestone full of sinkholes, caves and underground channels. Water moves through it fast and unpredictably, so a house can be dry for years and then get water when a channel underneath shifts or a downspout is rerouted.
